Look at the photo that I just found! Gordon Sevenliss!

This was published in our own Sachem High School Alumni Gazette This is the BLOG, not the Facebook group.)

You went to school with him! This photo was taken at Davis Park Fire Island, New York, possibly in the late 60s. (Davis Park is opposite Patchogue, NY, directly across the Great South Bay.) Now what is Gordon doing with all those Clams?

In the late 60s, my wife and I "Hung-out," with what was then, the 60s version of the "Jet Set." Well!! We were actually the "Prop Jet Set;" there were no jets at that time. My crowd of about thirty young men and women all owned Boats, and used them as "Campers." Every weekend during the summer we parked our Boats in the Davis Park Marina, on Fire Island, and partied until Sunday night.

At that time Clams were plentiful in the Great South Bay. The Clams that Gordon as well as everyone else gathered were used to make Clam Chowder! Well! To be honest! There were many attempts to make Clam Chowder, on small "Boat Camp Stoves," but none of the attempts resulted in a palatable Chowder! Within our crowd of Thirty young men and women, not one of us knew how to cook! My "prop Jet Set crowd," was very proficient at drinking Beer and Wine; but not one of us was proficient at cooking Clam Chowder!

Gordons Mother Lil, took pity on the "gorgeous, young, Prop Jet Set females" that couldn't cook, and decided to make the Clam Chowder for them! Lil made a batch of Clam Chowder that would feed about Forty people. As it turned out, Lil made the best Clam Chowder on the planet! The Chowder was so delicious, that the "young, gorgeous, prop Jet Set women," kept asking Lil to make her chowder again and again. This went on for about ten years!

Life is so precious, and it comes with many unexpected outcomes! Today, my "not so young, gorgeous, Prop Jet Set women," is now a world class cook. Marie takes with her, Lil's famous recipe for Clam Chowder. It is amazing to see how the actions of one person effect people in the future! My grandchildren are now big fans of "yes you guessed it!" Lil's Clam Chowder!

Message From John Knight:
Greetings from the other side of the pond, I was delighted to have information regarding the proposed reunioun from Carol.
*
I am not sure whether you'd remember me. I arrived at Sachem from Wales in January 1960 and met a guidance officer Mr Desantolo.I came to the US and lived with my sister in Holtsville and I was 14 years old.
Following some tests at Sachem I was put into the 11th grade where I met some very good friends which have lasted nearly 50 years, Mike and Kathy Pomara, Carol, Skipy Peterson, Buddy Bear and many others.
(I graduated aged 15 in 1961)
*
Ironically my wife and I hope to visit my sister who still lives on Long Island in September 2010. I would be most grateful if you could forward to me any information regarding the proposed reunion I would love to attend. I retire in March having completed 45 years service with the Police in the UK.

May I take this opportunity of wishing you and your family a very happy an healthy New Year and every success in planning the reunion.

PS
My claim to fame at Sachem was not the wrestling team but the soccer team and track and field.
Regards
John Knight

NEWS FROM WAY BACK HOME IN NEW YORK
*
The following three photos were taken at Cupsogue Beach, in Westhampton, on January 18, 2010.

The first photo was taken from the Pier at Cupsogue Beach. I love photos of the surf; I find them so refreshing! For you alumni that reside down south, just turn down your Air Conditioner to 40 degrees, "left click" the photo; and the magic will happen! Ha!!!!!! Help send this boy to camp in Orlando! Its cold on the beach in January!

The second photo is an animated version of the first photo; taken at a slow shutter speed. (left click the photo)

One cant help reading a message into this next photo!

I would say:

"A women returns to the fun location of her youth!" This women is my wife Marie; we have been married for 46 years.

The real message:
"Its too cold on the beach; im standing under the alcove to keep warm. Come get me when your finished!"

OK! The HMS Honda once again sails down the Duneroad River, toward the Shinacock Inlet. (left click the photo)

*
From my vantage point on the Duneroad River, I see an object that looks like that the battleship that was built by the Germans; I believe it was called the Bismark.

Please "left click" the photo below to reveal what appears to be a door, on the starboard side of the vessel. I am absolutely sure that this is where all of the East End Men, hide from their wives every weekend. I would bet this vessel has a beer cooler, and an HD TV!

From Janice and Richard Hovelmann:

Hi
This is Richie Hovelmann. I just wanted to let you know that I am out here, and my wife and I are looking forward to attending the 2010 reunion.

I lived in Miller Place until 2007 when I retired and moved to PA.
I can't believe that I had to go to my granddaughters high school graduation in Florida, to find out from Eleanor Danovich Puorro about the website and the reunion. I am still reading the blogs and comments on the website and I really enjoy them, but I especially enjoy looking at the old photos.
Richie

PS. In all the comments I haven't noticed any comment about Principal/ Superintendent Walter C. Dunham, So I will tell you that just before I moved off the Island in the 3/18/07 edition of the Newsday I saw a beautiful obituary, with pictures, that said he had passed away at the age of 94.

Taken this afternoon at the Sandspit Marina in Patchogue.

Wind speed; 40 MPH. Wind chill factor Zero degrees. The air conditioning on long Island is really working well! Now I know what it feels like to be trapped in a Meat Locker at the local Super Market! Ha! Ha!
