Historic Beverian Inn "Boarded-up"

There may still be some hope for the structure itself. It would be wonderful if it was again turned into a Pavilion reminiscent of it's history! If it ultimately becomes part of an existing park, the entire community wins!

It is certainly an obscene solution to tear down this Historic Structure, and turn it into a boat Ramp!

Guidelines for publication:
The intent of this Blog is to promote congenial interaction between Sachem Alumni, and friends. Positive articles about our past and present experiences are desired. Feel free to write an article about yourself, and your family. An article about your vacation that includes a critique of that venue is also desired. Please include Photos! Just be careful not to include any statement that may be libelous, demeaning, facetious, or derogatory. We get demeaning and derogatory input every day of our lives, weather we like it or not; just check the local media!

The intent of this blog is to create a refuge from input which may be considered unpleasant!

My Father told me not to put too much emphasis in friends, because they are transitory! “If you manage to maintain contact with just one friend for a lifetime, you would be very fortunate!” We maintain contact with sixty friends! How fortunate are we?

John and Lloyd Bringing Back the LRQ
Alumnus John Cassese has been working with Lloyd Arrasate, with the intention of re-organizing the Lloyd Roberts Quintet. As you may recall, the band had a mini reunion at the Flaming Hearth in Farmingville, in June of 2006. All of the Sachem Alumni that attended this Concert felt 20 years younger after their performance, including me. There is something special about experiencing the same music, by the same band, that you "so enjoyed" when you were a teenager! The band actually rehearsed in Florida for that "one time performance."

Lloyd has made numerous attempts to book the Flaming Hearth, which is the Old "Country Tavern," for a final concert for us to enjoy. Unfortunately, that may not happen! The band is now practicing together, and if a final concert actually materializes, it might be at a different location.

When and if this Final Reunion Concert actually manages to get scheduled, I will notify our entire group via Email.

I went down to the place that the Band was playing and made a video for you to
enjoy!
Close your eyes, and the Seventies will come alive again!!

Comment from Marylin:
Hi Ben,

Thanks for the news from back home. Are there any plans yet for a 50 year Sachem reunion?

Thanks
Marylin

News From Back Home on Long Island

Tornado Hits East Moriches, on June 9, 2008.

Flood in Greenport
*
I often go to the town of Greenport, to enjoy the scenery, visit the local stores, and go "People Watching!" Today Marie and I visited a Candy Store in Greenport, and purchased two pounds of Chocolate Truffles! Were Bad! I just love Chocolate!
*
When the storm hit, I was across the street from Claudios Restaurant, near the water. Minutes earlier the tornado had hit East Moriches! My wife and I took cover in the entrance to a store, under the canape. The first photo was taken minutes after the storm started. (Left click the photo to make it larger)

*
In the second photo the wind was gusting to about 75 miles per hour. The rain was coming down so hard that the structures behind Claudios disappeared in the downpour! As you can see in the photo, the water is about two inches high on the sidewalk.

We were having a great time enjoying the spectacle! I was really surprised to see that I was not the only person who was taking photos! Today I saw "the best in people," materialize during this adverse situation.
*
People were frolicking in the flooded streets, while others took photographs of them! They were soaking wet, but everyone was having a spirited time! A Stretch Limo Driver was helping stranded people get to their cars. I saw what Long Islanders were made of!
*
After the storm was over I photographed a section of the street, which was representative of the condition, of all of the streets in Greenport; the water covered the sidewalks as well as the road!
*

*
Look at the YouTube Video to see the condition of the streets in East Moriches! (Click the link below)
