Hi Ben
I was looking at the blog and I saw Doris Christopherson, my next door neighbor on Pinoaks Place. Could you give her my email address or could you give me hers, since I "don't do computer too well?" I love this blog and hope it continues for our children and grandchildren to enjoy.

Video of Lake Ronkonkoma
The Bavarian Inn is at the far end of the now visible Parking Lot. This lot was under five feet of water, just a few months ago.

The noise in the background is the wind; it was blowing at 35 Miles Per Hour, when this video was taken.

At the end of this video you will see the former location of Turners Park, which is now a Playground/ Picnic Area.

I still look at this area with great fondness; I spent some of the best years of my life "Hanging Out," at Lake Ronkonkoma! I loved the Pavilions; Hollywood Pavilion, Ceder Grove, The Suffolk House, and the Bavarian Inn!

My first professional appearance as a Guitar Player/ Entertainer was at a Lake Ronkonkoma Night Club (name withheld). What I didn't know at the time, was that it was a "House of Ill Repute."

As I think back, I clearly recall Great People, and Great times!

Comment From Barbara Deppe Schwinn:

I do have fond memories of lake Ronkonkoma. Bettyann ,keller, Cox and I would take the bus , I would get on in Farmingville, and she would get on in Selden. Fond memories; we would also do the same thing if we went to Patchogue. Our Shopping Mall, ha ha. I remember Sweezeys, the 5 and 10, going to the movies, and just hanging out. Fond memories!

Thanks to all

Barbara Schwinn

Comment From Joan Lalla Garson:

Hi
I wonder if anyone remembers the name of that ride at Turner Park that rotateted like a ferris wheel, but each caged unit which could seat 4 people also rotated individually. It was so scarey that my neighbor actually wet her pants while we were on it

Joanie Lalla Gerson

Comment From Priscilla Kolb-Pierce:
I went on that ride with my father when I was about 14. He thought he it would be funny to rock it until I wound up sitting on his shoulders and neck. Then it wasn't so funny.

I don't remember the name.

Priscilla Kolb-Pierce

Submission from George LaCorte :

Hi everyone
Our classmate Barbara Deppe Schwinn has been located. She lives in Lords Valley PA. Her High School Photo will be posted as soon as I can!

Her Email Address, can be found on the header of the Email, that is used to inform you of new postings to our Blog.

About a year ago Barbara attempted to contact her fellow alumni via Reunion.com. At that time I put up the following Web Page with Barbara's Photo.

(Left click the link below this line)

As it turned out my message to Barbara was screened by Reunion.com and she never got our message. Finally after doing detective Work, I managed to locate her using 411.

Welcome back Barbara!

Here is a Trivia Test Regarding only the Guys:
  • Who is best known as "Mr. Bond"
  • Who has a auto tag based on a Beach Boy hit?
  • "Domino" is his new name__________?
  • "Railbird" best describes this guy?
  • Who is JV?
  • Who previously owned a dive shop in St. Martin?
  • A "Life Saver" goes by this name__________?
  • Answers Below:

  • Mr. Bond is George Gerson based on frequent Bond trading.
  • Vinnie and Jane have a Florida Tag: COCOMO base on the Beach Boy hit spelled with a K.
  • Ken and Louise are now Domino game champs especially at Mexican Train.
  • That's me, "Railbird" is associated with fans cheering their horse on at the finish line.
  • At the Singler residence you better call him JV because that's what his Mother liked.
  • George Gerson showed us where his dive shop was on St Martin.
  • Vinnie saved my life in 1993 at his Parents Home by performing the Heimlich Maneuver.

From Joan Lalla Gerson:
Bavarian Inn Reunion 1989:
Hi again,

This is the Bavarian Inn group picture from 1989. I can give you most of the names if you want them. Maybe somebody out there knows the rest.

Joanie

(Double left click the photo to enlarge)

Row 1:
Rudy DeSantolo, _____,_______,Boris Spivak, Walter Dunham, Richard Berger, Dave Rothenburg, Kay Miranda, _______,_________

Row 2:
_______,_______, Joan Lalla, Mike Pomara, Ginny Krauz, Esther Landahl, Edwina Dugan,________, Judy Weicher,________,________, Mr. Creedon

Can anyone fill in the blanks?

Turn the Bavarian Inn into a Boat Ramp????
What a sad story! Flooded by the rising water from Lake Ronkonkoma the owner of the Bavarian Inn; (that is where we had our Reunion) has handed his waterlogged Catering Hall over to Mother Nature. Suffolk County wants to turn it into a Boat Ramp! I'm sick!
Click the link below to read the entire Newsday article!
http://www.newsday.com/news/local/suffolk/ny-lifert115495797dec11,0,3067637.story

Wow I could still visualize the Bavarian Inn in the Mid Fifties; it was a Pavilion then. The entire floor was filled with Picnic Tables. You could buy Bratwurst, and German Beer for lunch. City people came to the Bavarian Inn to swim in the pristine water, party, and drink Beer. The owner later got into Catering, which was done Family Style, just as it was done in Germany.
All this history, and the best thing Suffolk County could come up with is a Boat Ramp! I am totally Crushed! Ha! How about jacking up the building, and turning the Bavarian Inn, into a Recreation Center for the local Youth to enjoy. It would really be wonderful if someone provided the youth with a place to go, other than the streets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Judi Beldon Lloyd:

Bummer, that's where I had my wedding reception. I was living in Texas at the time.

Still A Chance for an LRQ Reunion
As you may recall earlier this year, we almost had a Mini Reunion, which was depending on the Lloyd Roberts Quintet, playing at the Flaming Hearth in Farmingville, NY. At the last minute, technical problems with the owner of the catering hall resulted in the Concert and the Mini Reunion being cancelled.

I managed to talk to Lloyd Arrisate from the Lloyd Roberts Quintet while he was playing at the Pine Grove Inn (East Patchogue, NY) on New Years Eve 2007. I was encouraging Lloyd to again run a "Lloyd Roberts Quintet Reunion Concert!" As it turned out, Lloyd was already considering sponsoring just one more Reunion Concert. Lloyd has to overcome a major obstacle; two of the Band members live in Florida!

The location of the concert has not yet been determined!!!!!! Hummmm??????? Wouldn't it be great to have the concert on the Beach in Fort Lauderdale!!! Ha! Ha! Just kidding!

If this tentative event becomes a reality, we could again plan our Mini Reunion, here on Long Island.

From Joan Lalla Garsen:
Hi
On the beach in Fort Lauderdale sounds perfect. Another good place is the Holiday Inn at St. Pete's Beach where Pat Prince had our first Florida reunion. There are pictures of it somewhere on the blog. If it is on Long Island in the summer I will definitely try to make it!
