UPDATE # 3
120 Members

Please invite your Sachem friends to join our Facebook group!

Sachem Alumni New Facebook Group
I have been totally amazed at the response to our Sachem Alumni 1959 - 1965 "Facebook Group." This group was originally set up to help with our Reunion in 2010; and hasn't been used much. Recently Facebook advised me that I was the only member, and the Group would be canceled if I quit.

Rather than loose the site, I advised our membership of its existence; we now have 120 members; wow!

Unlike our Blog, Alumni are able to talk directly to each other; the response has been wonderful! Direct conversation, without a time delay that you get with our Blog! I will keep the Blog active, but wouldn't it be wonderful if every member of our Alumni Group could participate in our "Facebook Group?" So far about one half of our group has joined our Facebook Group. I am hoping that the remaining members could join our group.

How do I do this?

First sign-up for a Facebook account. http://www.facebook.com/

Then request joining our group at. http://www.facebook.com/groups/58645312298/

Caution #1 Do not set-up Facebook on a Business Computer; you will get many notifications of activity on your email.

Caution #2 Anything posted to facebook can appear anywhere, and disappear without notice. Any announcement such as a Reunion Announcement is better placed on our Blog; at least it doesn't move. This fixed location can be linked multiple times in Facebook.

From Priscilla Kolb Pierce:

I mentioned that I would host a reunion in 2012 in Ocala, Florida while we were celebrating the class of 1960’s 50th reunion. I am still committed to this but need to know who will be interested in attending. I am thinking of mid to late October 2012 and would like to know besides who would like to attend but also what events you would be interested in. My plan is to have the reunion base at the Holiday Inn with the ice-breaker dinner at the SkyFusion Asian restaurant (http://www.ocalasky.com/ ) on the sixth floor of the hotel. On Saturday, I think a picnic at Rainbow Springs (http://www.floridastateparks.org/rainbowsprings/ ) in Dunnellon. Sunday is open for suggestions but I think since Ocala is the horse capital of the world, that horseback riding (http://www.cactusjackstrailrides.com/ ) would be nice.

From Gerry Jacobs Horal '64

CBS officially released the teams of Season 20 of The Amazing Race January 25 and there was a half page article in Newsday last week and the Sachem Patch....We have been under what you might call a gag order for months and could not breath a word of this till CBS released all the information...

Jerry's Son Daniel Will be in "The Great Race"

My comment about the bag over my head was tongue in cheek...Daniel can actually be quite the comedian..but is also very competitive..so this show was right up his alley..We have been on pins and needles for weeks waiting to finally see what happened as he traveled around the world.

It is 'amazing' how people are either crazy fans of The Amazing Race or they have never watched....

The first show of the 20th Season will be February 19th on CBS at 8pm...

This is going to be quite the exciting winter for us...first the Super Bowl and the Giants and next the Race...

Hope you get a chance to watch and enjoy...

Bayard Cutting Arboretum Site of our 50Th Sachem High School Reunion.

For those Sachem alumni that still live here on Long Island: A Sunday afternoon stroll, through the grounds of the BCA can be very relaxing. Marie and I go to the Arboretum at least once a month, the year round.

After a stroll through the BCA, we always go to the Cafe to have lunch or Coffee and cake. This makes our afternoon complete. The cafe is located in the main building. Call to check the current schedule. I generally try to arrive at the cafe before 1:30.

Fellow classmates: after the "Reunion of all Reunions," I can still feel the energy at the Arboretum!

The Bluebird Inn had the best "Shuffle Board Table" for miles around.

Mike Mahoney Said:
I think Kay-Eds (formerly Murtha's) and Maloney's (later McGinnesses) had good tables also!!!

From George LaCorte:

I am not sure who would omit to knowing what street ran along side of the R.R. Tracks in Lake Ronkonkoma, and of course no one ever "Dragged Raced" down that street. The reason being was that there were hardly any cross streets, But what do I know?

Come on, there were a few of you that knew this! "I bet the Suffolk Saints knew it."
