Once again the Ronkonkoma Chamber of Commerce sponsored their annual BBQ Clambake, on "Hallowed Ground;" the former location of the Hollywood Pavilion, on Lake Ronkonkoma. This piece of real estate is sacred to members of this Alumni Group. This location was renamed "Ronkonkoma Beach." The food was great; Shrimp, Clams, Hamburgers, Hot dogs, Salads, Chicken and much more.
The music was provided by talented musicians that were called "the Rock Band." Everyone did the limbo and many entered into the Hula Hoop Contest.
Once again the "Spirit of Times Past, prodded me to connect with the free spirit that I nurtured over 50 years ago, when I attended Sachem. OK! I had to satisfy the "Spirit," so I put on my wife's "Red, White, and Blue Sunglasses." Haven't changed much, I still like to get crazy once in a while! LOL I like my wife's Sunglasses; yesterday, on the 4Th, I walked along the Atlantic City Boardwalk, wearing my wife's "Red, White, and Blue Sunglasses, with all the other "crazies," just for fun! Yep! I put them on at the BBQ Clambake!
I suddenly had this feeling of "well being," come over me! The Spirit of "Times Past," prodded at me to wade in the water. OK! Got to keep the "Spirit" happy; so I took off my shoes and waded in the water! Another year goes by, and the "Spirit of Times Past," helps me to re-connect with the great times that I had when I attended Sachem High School.
Being in "Sachem Country," one is bound to meet some Sachemites! This year a lovely couple sat at our table; coincidently they just happened to be good friends with our fellow alumni, Ed and Mary Short! The photo below is of Kimberly Vollgraff and her husband James. Kimberly graduated from Sachem in 2000.
My brother John Vitale and his wife Rosanne also attended the BBQ. John is from the Sachem class of 1972. We do have a few younger members in our Alumni Group. Does anybody remember John Vitale from Sachem High School?
The sun is setting over Lake Ronkonkoma, and the Clock is ticking down to the next Ronkonkoma Chamber of Commerce Clambake BBQ. LOL Great fun! The "Spirit of Times Past," can once again rest until next year!
