Teddy's Luncheonette
Does anybody remember which store was called Teddy's Luncheonette, in Lake Ronkonkoma, NY?
What was the original name of the Bar on the right hand side? "I have no idea!"

If I had to guess it was where the Real Estate or Tmobile is now ..there was a bridal shop next to it East side..then I think the bar (Eagle Rest) or something like that.....
ReplyDeleteSpent many fun afternoons in Teddy's...just saw Ritchie (son of Teddy and Tillie) at reunion..Gerry Paul (Terry)
Teddy's was in the "Ronkonkoma Rare Coins store.... I am almost positive? 98% sure
ReplyDeleteWe saw Teddy's son Ritchie Bloomberg at our reunion recently

The bar was called Eagles Rest...and Teddy's was in the middle or more toward the rare coins...I believe there was a deli near the bar also..I would go to the deli at times and I remember you could vote for Miss Rheingold and put your vote into a cardboard box even though you weren't old enough to drink the stuff....I lived across Portion Road near Lyla and Johns Hairstylist shop (Bob and Walter Schmidt's parents)..boy does that bring back memories..Movie magazines..lstening to songs on the jukebox (Debbie Reynolds singing Tammy and Jimmy Rogers...) buying all that cheap penny candy like the big red wax lips and the wax bottles with liquid sugar..Merry Crhistmas everyone and blessings to all Gerry Jacobs Horal
ReplyDeleteTeddys was either by the massage place or rare coins...then there was Clementes dress shop, a Deli and of course the Eagles Rest at the end...seeing their son Richie at the reunion was nice....life was good....Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas and the happiest of New Years to all...Nancy Bishop Farrell
ReplyDeleteTeddy's Luncheonette opened in January 1956 and I believe closed sometime in 1968. I wasn't around at that time as I was a draftee in the Army. I likely made some malts, egg creams or ice cream sundae's for some of those reasding this. When he sold it became Huba Huba. I recall some guys standing outside the hardware store (one of the owners was classmate Joy Sabatelle's father) doing doo wop. Don Wooley would show up driving his Edsel. I am not sure what it is located there now. Gerry is correct. There was a bridal
ReplyDeleteshop next door, then a deli and a hair salon and then the Eagles Nest. I was at the class of 1962 50th reunion. Regards to all , Richie Bloomfield
From Mike Mahoney:
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure that Teddy's was in the last store on the left (where
the Rare Coin store is now). The Bar on the right end was the Eagle
Rest owned by John Allen Sr. who, by the way, raced against Jessie
Owens. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy, healthy 2013 in spite of those Mayans. Mike
From Ken Muzzonigro:
ReplyDeleteAs I recall
current Good Times bar was initially the Eagles Rest
Ronkonkoma Rare Coins was the site of Teddy's
From Margaret Kirchner:
ReplyDeleteThe bar was called "THE EAGLE'S NEST."

ReplyDeleteI do remember Teddy's Luncheonette. My favorite ice cream was butter
pecan. Then, across the road in the shopping center a bowling alley came
to Lake Ronkonkoma and a pizza parlor too. Oh, happy days!
And a Woolworth's...that so many of us would go to after a football game for a coke and fries.....
ReplyDeleteOnce meg reminded us about the Cleaners, I started to recall some details. I believe that the "Cleaners," occupied the area that is currently the Coin Shop and the Foot Spa. I recall Teddy's being where the T-Mobile store is located.

Hi, Use to live in Ronko Park homes same deveopment as Nancy Bishop and it was the coin shop. My brothers and I used to cut through and path behind the stores for milky way candy bars. Good times there, Ben. Pat Brida
ReplyDeleteOMG! I'm loosing it! LOL. Got to locate some photos!
ReplyDeleteHi, I also lived in Ronko Park on Cleary Rd. Teddy's was located where Ronk Rare Coins is presently. The Eagle's Nest was owned by John Allen Sr. who also lived on Cleary Rd. To the left of Teddy's(west), was a hardware store owned by Bob Fazio's father and Otto Hirsh, both lived in Ronko Park. Great times!

Hi Ben, the name of the bar in the shopping center is Eagles Rest. From Eleanor Danovich Puorro class of 61
ReplyDeleteI worked in the Eagles Rest the summer after graduation. I also babysat for John Allen, Jr. I didn't realize that Sr. was a runner. Nor did I know that he ran against Jesse Owens.
