I remember the wonderful, fun times I had at the Lake. I worked three summers at Raynors Beach, first as a locker boy, then as a Life guard. Good times at the infamous "Tavern on the Lake". sneaking into turner's park as a little kid to go on the rides. hanging out at Wally Gagel's Suffolk Beach, with Mr. Wooley as Life guard. Hollywood beach to hear and dance to the bands. The Bavarian Inn with Mike Kruckle as Bartender,,,lots of on the house drinks.. Degenaro's bowling lanes. Dancing summer nights downstairs at Virginia beach, Ahhh what memories it brings back. for posting the pictures of the "LAKE"

  2. Love the Lake Ronkonkoma photos. Wish it was the same today as it was for us. Really loved the time I was at the lake with family and friends.

I remember the slide at the lake; all of us could be in this picture. I would get on the bus and meet Bettyann, Denice, and the gang, there.

I was wondering about the hotels. I did not recognize them. My sister, Linda, and I spend our summers with my cousin, Donna Bednar, long before high school. Somewhere we are related to the Raynors, but we usually hung out at DeGennaro's. Hawkins Avenue was named after my great-grandfather and great uncles. I remember walking with him through the woods on his farm to see the progress on the new school that they were building on land that he had sold for it. At that time I was living in NH. Little did I know that I would be attending that school when it first opened as Sachem High School when I was a junior.

What a small world! I remember entertaining at DeGennaro's. I played in the small room that was off of the Bar. I still can visualize the interior decor of the bar area! I do remember Mr. DeGennaro! Wow! What fond memories! Anyone remember the Suffolk House?

Having moved to Lake Ronkonkoma in 1946 from Manhatten I remember "the Lake" as a wonderful place to grow up, to go to school at Gatelot ave, to hangout at Ronkonkoma Shores, to visit Turners Park, to meet my future wife while working at Macks Beach, as a parking attendant, ohhh how I remember those days and the livelong friends such as Joan Yanazzo,Charles Seibert, Olli Olson,Jackie Weidman,Len Sinigalli, and many many more, to many to mention...tks for the pictures. Sincerely, Tony Bonicioli
