How to Spend a Sunday Afternoon
Ben Vitale

*
I am of Italian descent but I am convinced that I must have some "Gypsy" in me; I cannot stay in one place. Every time I see a Violin I get chills up my spine! LOL! This Sunday Marie and I went to Cupsogue Beach in Westhampton.
A club called the Beach Hut operates at Cupsogue Park, at Westhampton Beach.

...
I just love the operation there! Entertainment is provided starting at about 4:30. This Sunday the East End Trio, provided the entertainment. I was very impressed with the lead singer; he sounded exactly like James Taylor, and Neil Diamond! Nostalgia was flying over me! Great Fun!
http://www.theeastendtrio.com/
Food and drinks are available, There are plenty of public tables, and some people bring their own snacks. I personally try to help the Beach Hut pay for the entertainment.
What could be better... Fresh air, great music, food and drinks at Westhampton beach. We met a few great people and had a wonderful time.
Hope to see some of you guys at a similar function this summer!

Confession to Mr. Brisson

Mr. Brison was my English teacher, when I attended Sachem High School, in Lake Ronkonkoma, NY, in 1959. Mr Brison made every effort to deliver me from the language of my youth; "Brooklyneese." In spite of his best efforts, I just can't kick the habit! LOL. Actually I think that the Brooklyneese language is beautiful. The hand and body motions allow people to fully communicate; I cannot get this sense of communications when I speak "the Kings English. Those of you that are not familiar with the Brooklynese language, please watch the attached video. "fogetaboutit" lol. OMG! That was so expressive! LOL :--))

Recollections of Christmas Eve
Ben Vitale
I have fond memories, of Christmas Eve at Grandpa and Grandma’s house, 60 years ago. My Grandparents had a tradition of playing Poker, in between the courses of dinner; Today, three generations later, our Grand Children, who are adults, love to play Texas Holdem Poker, at family gatherings. The grandchildren are now teaching Grandpa how to play Texas Holdem Poker! Hummm… Is playing poker at family gatherings hereditary?  LOL
Many of our family traditions stem from my grandparents who came to America from Italy, in the 30s.  The Christmas Eve ritual at their house in Brooklyn, NY, was really interesting and choreographed with the precision of a Broadway musical production.
On Christmas Eve, my grandparents served a seven course meal; each course was followed by a game of Poker. It was so funny! The table cloth was literally removed from the table after each course, and Poker was played on the Plate Glass Tabletop! Through practice, my family members had training, in the art of playing Poker that could be compared to the training that one would receive at a military Boot Camp. LOL. I firmly believe that if my family went to a Casino to play Poker, the Casino wouldn’t stand a chance! LOL.  After the last course, the family would play Poker for the rest of the night. With all of the above going on, some family members managed to go to Midnight Mass, which is a Catholic tradition!
Christmas Eve at my house takes the same effort and dedication that it did decades ago! Once again we are working hard in preparation for our Christmas Eve celebration, 2013. This year, our Christmas tree was just about the right size for the room; we didn't have to cut off any branches from the top of the tree.  21 people will be at our home this year on Christmas Eve. I have introduced another component into my family’s arsenal of traditions; Karaoke Sing Along, after dinner.
My wife and I can remember the Bubbly Lights that our grandparents always put on their Christmas, Tree 60 years ago. Marie and I carried on the tradition, and always had “Bubbly Lights” on our Christmas Trees. Our tradition has propagated itself through Three generations! My 21 year old granddaughter would never forgive us if we didn't have bubbly lights on our tree! Bubbly lights have become a multi-generational tradition in my family!
While writing this article I had an epiphany; I suddenly realized that Christmas Eve at my house has had a profound effect on our grandchildren. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if our tradition survives for decades to come!
You might want to read another Christmas related story that I published a few years ago. I personally feel that “Christmas Stories” are timeless, and become relevant at Christmas time every year!

Reunion 2014 Message from Brenda Sichenzia
We purchased a home in Leesburg, FL but we haven’t sold our house yet. So the reunion might still be in Pennsylvania in Late July or Early August; or, if we sell, by the Spring, it will be in Florida. I apologize for being so tardy with this message.

Patchogue, NY
Ben Vitale

The Patchogue council 725, of the Knights of Columbus, is sponsoring a special performance of the famous Del Satins, to benefit the New York State Veterans Home in Stony Brook. This performance is   special, because the lead singer Stan Zizka is your neighbor! Wow! He lives in Patchogue Village.

The Del Satins worked with Dion originally from Dion and the Bellmonts, to record “Runaround Sue,” and “ Donna the Prima Donna.” I have found that both the young and the old are in agreement; this is a show that “should not be missed.”

Date:   Sunday, October 27, 2013

Time:   3PM

Place:   Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts, 71 East Main St., Patchogue, NY, 11772

Tickets start at $18 dollars, and are available via telephone, Web, or at the Patchogue Theatre Box office.

Telephone #:   631 207 1313

Web:  www.patchoguetheatre.com

“Donna the Prima Donna:”  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6OmZmoblSI

The Del Satins are also going to have a “meet and Greet,” photo opportunity session.

If you love 60s music, you really should attend this performance!

Buy your tickets as soon as possible; this show will sell out quickly.

Flash Mob Gathering Cancelled

(CANCELLED) Sachem 1959 - 1965+ Alumni Group, long island Social Gathering is CANCELLED.
Mini Flash Mob Social Gathering that was scheduled for Thursday Sept 12, 2013, at 6:00 PM had to be cancelled because of inclement weather. Oh well... We never got to have our Flash Mob Gathering!

I went to Smith Point just in case an alumni flew in from Hawaii, just to attend our little social. Cancelling was a good call, The band was cancelled, and the Restaurant did not open. Everyone was concerned about the storms. Wonderful; no alumni from Hawaii! LOL.

I did take a video of Smith Point Beach.

From Deanna Mauch:
Would loved to have been there.  Went dancing a few summers ago with family at that very spot. Thanks for the memory.

Sachemites Bocce Ball Tournament
Ben Vitale

Sachem alumni John Vitale and Ben Vitale challenged two members of the internationally renowned Italian Bocce Ball Squadra, over the Labor Day weekend.  Frank and Larry are two seasoned Bocce Ball players from Italy.

At the beginning of the game I found myself treating the Bocce Ball like a Bowling Ball; that didn’t work very well. Half way through the game the score was 11 to 1 in favor of the Italian team; the prognosis of winning was grim! LOL.

My brother john and I noticed that the Italian team members were skilled at putting both a vertical, and horizontal spin on the Bocce Ball. Ah Ha! That’s the secret! Re-cycling some of the techniques from  Baseball, John and I finally managed to get a few additional points.

Tensions built as we approached the end of the game. John and I used some Baseball throwing techniques that we had learned from watching Joe DiMagio, in Ebbets field,  Brooklyn, NY. The Italian team ultimately won with a score of 21 to 19. Not bad for two Sachem High School Alumni, from Lake Ronkonkoma, that were born in Brooklyn, NY. LOL

On September, 28, 2013, Bocce Ball Champion Frank Bosco, together with another team mate Carmine Franzese, go on to win another Bocce ball competition, the "Saint Liberata International Bocce Ball Championship;" which was held in Patchogue, NY.

Frank told me that some day he will show me the Bocce Ball trophies in his showcase!

I am now thoroughly convinced that the 19 points that John and I got in our original competition with Frank and Larry, were no accident; Frank and Larry gave them to us! LOL

What a great idea!

We should have one of these! Yesssssssss

"Any Year School Reunion"

On Saturday August 3, 2013, my wife Marie and I went to the Venetian Beach Hut in Lindenhurst, NY, to see a “60s Band;” we inadvertently walked into a Class Reunion. The people that were running the Reunion were under a tent giving out name tags. I spoke to an organizer of the Lindenhurst High School Any Year Reunion; he told me that every time he plans a reunion, everyone wants to attend. The novel solution is simple; invite "everybody." Publicity for this event was mainly through Facebook.

A tent was set-up on the Beach, near the Lindenhurst Beach Hut, a local night club, that normally schedules bands to entertain its regular customers. I have no idea as to how many people were Alumni, but 800 people showed up at the Venetian Beach Hut.

There's "alota fun" out there! When I get excited about something, I just love to express myself in "Brooklyneese." You can take the boy "outta" Brooklyn, but you can’t take the Brooklyn "outta da" boy. LOL

Update Possible Multi-class Reunion?

Nancy Bishop- Farrell 2:47pm Jul 20

Just got a call from Ellen Burke ref 63 reunion, apparently for various reasons they just couldn't get together to make plans, health reasons for some, and just life taking over for others...she was saying she didn't think they would mind having others there...so if you know anyone from 63, or other years who are interested in doing something or helping Ellen organize something, contact Ellen and make some suggestions, she is willing to work with suggestions, just getting people from our years together would be nice...her email is below.

Army policy... Never volunteer! LOL *:( sad

Sasquatch Attends Sachem Reunion 2010!

We may have had "Sachem High School Reunion 2010," at the Bayard Cutting Arboretum, with "Big Foot" as an un-noticed guest! LOL. I could have sworn that I saw an extremely large "guy" on the Buffet line! LOL. Did you see anyone with a lot of facial hair at our reunion? LOL

A few years ago I went for my usual walk in Bayard Cutting Arboretum, in Great River, NY, armed with a camera and warm clothes. “Yep…” Summer and winter, my wife and I love to walk around the Bayard Cutting Arboretum park property, and take photos. In 2009 I photographed a very interesting looking footprint. I smiled, and told Marie that the footprint belonged to our own Long Island “Big Foot!” In actuality I figured that I had just photographed a footprint left by Romeo, chasing Juliet, through the snow covered fields. LOL

It seems like the quest for a Sasquatch is an ongoing production on TV these days! After watching one of these programs, I went back to my photo collection to find the photo of what I thought could have been made by “Big Foot.” To my surprise I discovered that the photo of the footprint that was made by some unknown entity, showed that the creature had 6 toes instead of 5. I then searched using Google and discovered that there is some biblical reference to “giants with 6 fingers and toes.” Wow! This brought new credibility to my photo!

http://www.canada.com/topics/technology/science/story.html?id=60c20777-ac74-4e06-8a25-1a2abd32a4df

http://2012forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6227

http://www.ufobc.ca/Supernatural/Bigfoot/sixtoed.htm

So… We have the first indication, that “we, the residents of Long Island,” may have our “very own” Sasquatch! It’s about time… everyone else has a “Big Foot” running around their “town.” I’m glad that we may finally have our own local Sasquatch. OMG... the Hamptons doesn't even have a Sasquatch! LOL

The next time I decide to stroll through the Arboretum, I will bring bait. I figure that a bowl of my wife’s Italian food should be enough to entice “Big Foot,” to come out of the woods and have dinner.

“Hey! This is getting exciting!” Have you seen “Big Foot,” anywhere on Long Island?
