From Joan Lalla Gerson:
Bavarian Inn Reunion 1989:
Hi again,

This is the Bavarian Inn group picture from 1989. I can give you most of the names if you want them. Maybe somebody out there knows the rest.

Joanie

Row 1:
Rudy DeSantolo, _____,_______,Boris Spivak, Walter Dunham, Richard Berger, Dave Rothenburg, Kay Miranda, _______,_________

Row 2:

Can anyone fill in the blanks?

Turn the Bavarian Inn into a Boat Ramp????
What a sad story! Flooded by the rising water from Lake Ronkonkoma the owner of the Bavarian Inn; (that is where we had our Reunion) has handed his waterlogged Catering Hall over to Mother Nature. Suffolk County wants to turn it into a Boat Ramp! I'm sick!
Click the link below to read the entire Newsday article!
http://www.newsday.com/news/local/suffolk/ny-lifert115495797dec11,0,3067637.story

Wow I could still visualize the Bavarian Inn in the Mid Fifties; it was a Pavilion then. The entire floor was filled with Picnic Tables. You could buy Bratwurst, and German Beer for lunch. City people came to the Bavarian Inn to swim in the pristine water, party, and drink Beer. The owner later got into Catering, which was done Family Style, just as it was done in Germany.
All this history, and the best thing Suffolk County could come up with is a Boat Ramp! I am totally Crushed! Ha! How about jacking up the building, and turning the Bavarian Inn, into a Recreation Center for the local Youth to enjoy. It would really be wonderful if someone provided the youth with a place to go, other than the streets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Judi Beldon Lloyd:

Bummer, that's where I had my wedding reception. I was living in Texas at the time.

Still A Chance for an LRQ Reunion
As you may recall earlier this year, we almost had a Mini Reunion, which was depending on the Lloyd Roberts Quintet, playing at the Flaming Hearth in Farmingville, NY. At the last minute, technical problems with the owner of the catering hall resulted in the Concert and the Mini Reunion being cancelled.

I managed to talk to Lloyd Arrisate from the Lloyd Roberts Quintet while he was playing at the Pine Grove Inn (East Patchogue, NY) on New Years Eve 2007. I was encouraging Lloyd to again run a "Lloyd Roberts Quintet Reunion Concert!" As it turned out, Lloyd was already considering sponsoring just one more Reunion Concert. Lloyd has to overcome a major obstacle; two of the Band members live in Florida!

The location of the concert has not yet been determined!!!!!! Hummmm??????? Wouldn't it be great to have the concert on the Beach in Fort Lauderdale!!! Ha! Ha! Just kidding!

If this tentative event becomes a reality, we could again plan our Mini Reunion, here on Long Island.

From Joan Lalla Garsen:
Hi
On the beach in Fort Lauderdale sounds perfect. Another good place is the Holiday Inn at St. Pete's Beach where Pat Prince had our first Florida reunion. There are pictures of it somewhere on the blog. If it is on Long Island in the summer I will definitely try to make it!

Santa Can't go to Florida!
Santa has a bit of trouble driving his sled in Florida due to the excessive heat. This year Santa's Elves have constructed Santa's new "Swamp Buggy." It looks like everyone will have a Merry Christmas this year.

There is nothing better than cold temperatures to help jump-start your Christmas Season. It was thirty degrees and "The Evergreen Choir," made it's premier appearance in Patchogue Village, NY. Look at all three videos; this choral group is really talented!

Mini Reunion 2005
By Fran Rodriquez Steidel

OK Ben, you made me go hunting through some photo boxes to send some re-union pictures for the blog. I have some oldies that I will try and dig up.

A few years ago some of my "girlfriends" from the East coast of Florida drove to the West coast to spend a day with my husband and me.
We are all 1961 graduates.

Left to right. Fran Rodriquez Steidel, Loretta Hildenbrand Scanlan. Lucille Caputo__, Joan Lalla__ and Steve Steidel.

Alumni Luncheon 2004
By Fran Rodriques Steidel
About 3 years ago Joan Lalla planned a luncheon for several Sachem alumni living in Florida.
We went to an Italian restaurant and had our own private room "The Pope Room."
Thanks for all your work, Ben.

Sachem North has an Alumni Site, but it's not free!
Check it out!

http://sachem.projectalumni.org/sachem/?gclid=CLrqh83toZACFQIQFQodBjmq8A

You've got to see this Video; "The Curse of Lake Ronkonkoma!"
The fascinating part of this is that Dr. Davis S. Ignare could have been from the Sachem Class of 1961. Does anyone know David?

Please return your comments! Yuppee!!!!!!!!!!!! Cool!!!!!!!!!

(Click the link below this line)

Amazing Reply from John Cassese!
Hi Ben, Ignare lived on Taber Street. He grew up with Kate. He was younger than Kate so they really did not hang out, but it is not likely that he went to Sachem. Nonetheless, it's a fascinating story about the lake. I have not gotten through the whole video but will check it out tonight. Crazy stuff.......

Comment From Ben Vitale:

I can't believe it, the Doctor lives around the corner from me! Damn! The Wicked Witch of Lake Ronkonkoma is at it again! I hope she doesn't have her drivers license! Who knows, she may even fly to Florida! Hee Haaa! This is funny!

GREAT! We Have Migrated into the 21 st Century!
The only casualty of this "Blog Upgrade," was the Hit Counter, that usually resided at the very end of our Blog. The counter told me how many people looked at our Blog. The count was almost 10,500, the last time I looked at it! I will try to re-insert the counter, if possible!

The Video Panel on the right will play videos when you click a particular panel. It is programmed to look for Sachem North, and Great South Bay Videos. The panel will alternate between the two categories. If you really pay attention to the current Sachem students, it will become obvious that they are a great group of young adults. You will also come to realize that they are not very different from us, when we attended Sachem. The videos that you will be looking at, were mastered by Sachem Students.

Notice to the readers of this Blog:
We must pay attention to the "Links." Slowly slide your mouse over the text on every page; if a line of text lights up, it is a link to more information. If you click that line, new information will display. Use the back arrow to come back to your original page!

Enjoy the 21st Century!

Philip Butler a Local Activist Saves Christmas
We are making National News from our little Village of Patchogue. Philip Butler's actions were aired everywhere, on Fox News, ABC, and even Newsday. In an effort to stop the Politically Correct Clan, Phil pressured Local groups to call there events Christmas Events, instead of Holiday Events. I thought it would never happen! He even set up a Nativity Scene on Main St, in conjunction with the local chapter of the Knights of Columbus!

First click the link below, then click the link after the video of the Grinch, to read the Newsday coverage.

News from Way Back Home on Long Island!
Winter has set-in here on Long Island, New York. I don't have to tell you that fathers get involved with their children's activities! I sold my boat about eight years ago, and guess what? My son just continued the tradition! So what did I get involved with? A Christmas Boat Parade! Actually it was a lot of fun!

The Sachem High School Alumni Gazette is not my first publication. Fifteen years ago I started publishing the "Maple Avenue Neighborhood Watch Gazette." At that time Issues were delivered in paper form, to my neighbors, within my local area. This Gazette was to serve a Neighborhood Watch Group. Copies of this four page Newsletter were delivered to Three Hundred and Fifty Households. We figure that about thirteen hundred people, may have read the "Maple Avenue Neighborhood Watch Gazette."

No one likes to read only "bad news," so uplifting articles were mixed along with the "Bad News." This strategy succeeded in promoting a sense of comaraderie and community. In order to keep up with the times, I migrated the MANW Gazette into the Internet, and abandoned the printed newsletter.

Why did I call the Neighborhood Watch Newsletter, a Gazette? A Gazette is a small Newspaper. At that time our "not too friendly" local government, did not like our "Activist Group," and was ready to give us tickets for littering, when we delivered our Newsletter. I then called our publication a Gazette, which now made us subject to a different set of rules. If they dared to give us a ticket for littering, they would also have to give a ticket to Newsday!

All of this text is to prevent you from getting confused! I will be sharing articles between the "Maple Avenue Neighborhood Watch Gazette," and our "Sachem High School Alumni Gazette." You will be spared the Bad News!

In this case I will be linking to only one article from the other publication.

It was really cold on that Boat!

Mini Sachem Alumni Reunion at Ormond Beach, FL

Don & Marylin Chion and Bill and Arlene Monteverde spent time together at Ormond Beach, FL. Bill & Don did some (catch and release) fishing. We ate at some great restaurants, played Mexican Dominoes and sipped Chocolate Martinis. We also got with Tom & Gerry (Farrell)McKibbin who moved to Ormond Beach a couple of years ago from LI. What a great time of year to be at the beach and relax. Cooler weather and no crowds!
Hope you enjoy the pictures.

Marylin

Group photos from Reunion 2001:

Does anyone know where were these photos taken? The objects in the backgroud of the top photo are very interesting, they look like Swimming Platforms.

Hi,

This was our first Florida reunion. It was sponsored by Pat (Prince) Rath. What a
great weekend we had with all.

The objects on the beach are lounge chairs with umbrella's, the item to the left I
believe was a beach buggy used by Life Guards. It evidently was a cloudy day
in Florida because you can not see the beautiful Gulf of Mexico.

Picture #1 is Pat and her brother George Prince.
Picture #2 includes (forefront) Bill and Arlene(Owen) Monteverde, (right) Pat & Don Rath,
(back right) George Prince & his wife. I am sorry to say I do not remember the last
couple.

Have a Great Week,
Arlene Monteverde

Comment from Georgette LaPierre Chimene
Class of 1964
In the last photo under reunion of 2001, the mystery couple is Georgette LaPierre(class of '64)Chimene and husband, Paul. We were only able to attend the fist day of the reunion. We enjoyed the dinnerand dancing and seeing some familiar faces. Hello to all.
Georgette
